How to Perform an Oxygen Blender Check Valve Leak Test

This week we asked Gadier Rodriguez, a technician at the Avante Health Solutions Center of Excellence in San Clemente, for his tips on testing oxygen blenders. Read Gadier’s tips below:

1. Disconnect the oxygen hose from the gas supply. Remove anything connected to the blender outlets to ensure no outlet flow is coming from the unit.
2. Insert the free end of the oxygen supply hose into a container of water and slowly increment the air supply from 0 to 75 PSI and check for bubbles.
3. If bubbles do occur, replace the check valve inside the fitting and repeat the process above.
4. If no leak occurs, repeat the same procedure above for the air supply side.
5. After both gas supplies have been tested successfully, adjust air and oxygen regulators to 50 PSI and check for exterior leaks.
